The Cagasawa Ruins are one of Albay's most iconic structures. Originally built in Cagsawa in 1587, it was burned down and destroyed by pirates in 1636, rebuilt in 1724, but destroyed again during the February 1, 1814 Mayon Volcano eruption. The ruins now serve as a surreal remnant of the past.

It is one of only four Baroque Spanish-era churches in the country. Having been built in the 17th century by Augustinians, the church was built on top of a hill. The church also once served as a citadel and a fortress during the 1896 revolution.
